Bristol Bears’ young guns powered to a bonus-point victory over Championship side Ampthill at a rain-soaked Ashton Gate on Sunday.

Pat Lam’s men ran in six tries courtesy of of Harry Rowson, Will Capon, Yann Thomas, Oscar Lennon, Aidan Boshoff and a penalty try, with Sam Worsley adding four conversions.

As the rain poured down in BS3, it was the visitors who were first on the scoreboard courtesy of a Josh Barton penalty on 13 minutes.

But the Bears hit back immediately when Elizalde latched on to a loose ball inside the Ampthill 22 before feeding Rowson to finish neatly in the left-hand corner.

Will Capon went over from a lineout drive on 22 minutes before skipper Yann Thomas powered to the line from close range on the half-hour mark.

The Bears’ lineout drive was proving an unstoppable force, and the bonus-point score arrived on 34 minutes via a penalty try, with Ampthill’s Callum Norrie subsequently sent to the sin bin.

And it was a quick-fire double from then hosts before the half-time interval, as Joe Jenkins burst through the middle before feeding a sliding Oscar Lennon for his side’s fifth score of a dominant first half.

Kerr Johnston crossed for Ampthill midway through the second half, before Aidan Boshoff scored with his very first touch having come on as a replacement, collecting Lennon’s looping pass to score in the corner.

The visitors had the final say with an 80th minute score, but it was the Bears who took all five points in round three of the Premiership Rugby Cup.

Bristol Bears Community Foundation is making rugby accessible for all with the return of the Sensory Safe Space at Ashton Gate for Bristol Bears matchdays this season.

The Sensory Safe Space, which was first launched by the Foundation in 2023, enhances the matchday experience for neurodivergent fans and those with sensory sensitivities by providing a room away from the main action before, during and after the game.

It creates an inclusive environment for supporters who may find the typical matchday atmosphere overwhelming due to the loud noises, bright lights and large crowds.

Equipped with bean bags, low level lighting and sensory toys, the quiet and calming space allows our fans to enjoy the matchday atmosphere at their own pace.

Through the Foundation’s school and community programmes, 10 families are booked into the room to allow parents, carers and siblings to all enjoy Bear Country together.

Jordan Lovatt, Community Inclusion Practitioner for the Bears Community Foundation, said: “We are thrilled to bring back the Sensory Safe Space this season. It’s about ensuring that everyone, regardless of their sensory needs, can feel included and comfortable at our games. The positive feedback we’ve received from families and individuals in the past demonstrates the importance of having such facilities.”

The Sensory Safe Space will be available at selected home league fixture at Ashton Gate Stadium throughout the season, with trained staff on hand to provide support to those who use it as part of Bristol Bears’ mission to make rugby accessible to all.

Our Sensory Safe Space is in place for Bears’ fixtures against Northampton Saints (Friday, October 25th), Newcastle Falcons (Sunday, January 26th), Exeter Chiefs (Saturday, March 22nd), Leicester Tigers (Saturday, April 19th) and Harlequins (Saturday, May 31st).

Supporters can look forward to a new and improved experience in Bear Country when Gallagher Premiership Rugby returns to Ashton Gate for the 2024/25 season.

Pat Lam’s men welcome Gloucester to BS3 on Friday, September 27th (7.45pm KO) and we’ve been working hard over the summer to deliver the best matchday offering.

The exciting stadium developments include a new Commemorative Wall in the rebranded Bears Clubhouse in the Lansdown concourse. Celebrating our tenth season at Ashton Gate, the wall features the name of every 2024/25 Season Ticket holder.

To bring our young fans closer to the action, the Family Area has moved from the Upper Lansdown Stand to South Stand blocks S18, S19 and S20 where families will still be able to see players before the game with our usual pre-match concourse activities.

We’ve listened to supporter feedback to make improvements and ensure our matchday events are safe, enjoyable and engaging for our community.

These developments include:

  • DJ building atmosphere in the South Stand concourse on Bears Den stage
  • Introduction of The Crossbar hospitality package for a club house-bar feel with access to buffet, bowl and street style food and a private bar.
  • Cow & Sow at Ashton Gate – enjoy pitch-facing views while savouring expertly created dishes prepared by leading Bristol-based steak restaurant Cow & Sow
  • Revamped experience in the Independence Sports Bar including new darts zone, Bristol Beer Factor beer festival, LOADED menu and post-match entertainment
  • A trial of self-service bar units at the stadium – adding more beer taps on a selection of products to help speed up service on matchdays.
  • Revamped in-bowl and on-screen entertainment

The food and drink offering for supporters is bigger and better than ever before this season, starting with a new and improved LOADED menu in the Sports Bar which includes 10 different flavours of chicken wings, chicken tenders and fries.

The nachos are made fresh on site each matchday with the choice of loading them up with pulled pork or chilli beef while you can also choose from an extensive selection of sides, as well as a range of vegan and vegetarian options.

On the bar, you can take advantage of the new Bristol Beer Factory fridge offering seven different types of local ale made 500 meters away in North Street. We have also teamed up again with Bristol Beer Factory to bring you a mini ale festival offering four guest ales.

With all this and more, it’s set to be another memorable season in Bear Country!

Fantasy Premiership Rugby is back for the 2024/25 season.

You can now select a squad of 23 Fantasy Premiership Rugby players and a starting XV each week with points awarded for everything from tries to 50:22s and bonus points awarded for the team’s selected captain and for the Gallagher Player of the Match.

Create your ultimate team featuring the best talent from the Gallagher Premiership – including your favourite Bears stars. You’ll be able to make limited transfers to tweak your squad and select your starting XV, captain and kicker from your squad of 23.

The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible through the scoring system. When your players score on the field, you pick up points from their performance after each round and your score feeds into your pools and to the global leaderboard.

While challenging for a top spot in the global leaderboard is definitely part of the game, the most fun is had in the much smaller pools of friends, family, teammates and colleagues where the aim is simply to score the most points in your group.

Weekly prizes will be up for grabs throughout the 2024/25 season including signed merchandise from your favourite club, tickets to the most anticipated fixtures, and General Admission tickets to the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final.

The overall global leaderboard winner will win two premium tickets to the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final with VIP access to Premiership Rugby’s exclusive box where you will indulge in top-tier food and drinks while you watch the action unfold.

Fans will also have the opportunity to compete against some of their favourite Gallagher Premiership Rugby players in club leagues and see how they compare.

The Superbru platform is available on mobile, desktop or the Superbru Rugby app. To find out more about Fantasy Premiership Rugby, read the ‘how to guide’ here.

Bears continued their pre-season preparations at Clifton Rugby Club with a six-try victory over Dragons.

Tries from Joe Batley, Harry Randall, Max Malins and two AJ MacGinty conversions gave Bears a 19-12 half-time lead, before Kieran Marmion grabbed two and Siva Naulago dotted down. MacGinty added a total of 10 points with five conversions.

Pat Lam named his strongest available team for the game which drew a large crowd to Station Road as the Bears ran out in their new hooped home kit for the first time.

The clash with Dragons followed behind-closed-doors fixtures and joint training sessions with Hartpury, Ealing and Doncaster at the High Performance Centre.

And the Bears opened sharply, scoring in the eighth minute when Batley charged down a clearance kick from a lost lineout and AJ MacGinty converted.

They went 12-0 up from the re-start with Kalaveti Ravouvou and Gabriel Ibitoye running the ball back up the left and feeding Randall, who put on the after-burners to dot down.

The Dragons responded with Owen Conquer crashing over from a line-out and Lloyd Evans converted but it was small respite as the Bears responded instantly, full-back Malins hitting the line perfectly.

Batley was blood-binned and replaced by former Clifton second row Joe Owen in the 24th minute and though Bears continued to press there was no further score.

HALF-TIME

Randall and Genge were replaced by Marmion and Jake Woolmore at half-time and the former was on the scoresheet within five minutes of the re-start, dottng down for MacGinty to convert.

Naulago made it five tries when he wriggled his way over after Harry Thacker danced his way to the line in their final actions of the game before being replaced by Rich Lane and Will Capon.

Dragons hit back on the hour when Jordan Williams collected Rhodri Williams’ kick behind the Bears defence.

Ravouvou and Benhard Janse van Rensburg combined to send Marmion over for his second try.

Dragons scored the final try of the match with Joe Peard powering over after pressuring the Bears line.
