Girls from across Bristol and beyond got to experience a ‘Train Like A Bear’ camp at the High Performance Centre this week as part of the Bristol Bears Community Foundation’s Club Connexions programme.

Thirty-seven girls from Under-12s to Under-16s attended the training facility, with clubs represented including North Bristol, South Bristol Girls, Chipping Sodbury, Frampton Cotterrell and North Somerset Barbarians, as well as ones from South Wales and Southampton.

Bears Women players got involved to answer questions and for signings and selfies.

Club Connexions is an initiative run by the Bristol Bears Community Foundation that supports the players, coaches and club development of connected clubs in the Bristol Combination area.

Bristol Bears Community Foundation Women and Girls Co-ordinator Kirsty Horner said: “It was fantastic for the girls to see the Bears Women train and to get an insight into what being an elite rugby player involves. The Bears Women were really engaging and the girls had a great experience which they can take back to their clubs. It’s going to be a huge year for women’s rugby with the Rugby World Cup coming to Bristol next September and sessions like these are invaluable for inspiring girls to participate.”

The next Connexions camp is at Hornets RFC on Wednesday, October 30th (9.30pm to 3.30pm). Please check Bristol Bears social media channels for further details nearer the camp.
